TAKE.ACTION is an initiative supporting young Ugandans from poor backgrounds to take vocational training. We support them on their way towards a self-determined life. Help us by becoming a sponsor!
Although living standards in Uganda have increased in the past decade, poverty is still widespread in rural areas. Bukedea District, located in the Teso region of eastern Uganda, is one of the poorest regions in the country. Many children drop out of school very early, even before finishing primary school. A lot of young people do not have the chance to continue their education and often struggle to find employment or to create their own businesses.
Rural areas are home to 95.4% of the poor people in the country
Young people constitute the largest group of the population
Students often drop out of school before Senior 4 level
How we help
TAKE.ACTION gives you the chance to sponsor a student to learn a trade at the Bukedea Vocational Skills Training Centre, our partner in Uganda. The centre offers training in eleven different trades such as tailoring, computer skills, motor mechanics and driving.
TAKE.ACTION pays the tuition fees for youth from vulnerable backgrounds, including people with disabilities, and young women and mothers who want to do a practical training. The programme allows them to acquire professional skills and official certification that will help them to find a decent job or start their own business.
130 euros is enough to cover the entire 15 months of training.
Obore, 22 years | Carpenter
“From zero to a hero” is how Obore describes his path in life. The eldest of seven children, he could only attend primary school. After receiving vocational training he started working as a carpenter. Selling his handmade furniture earns him enough to support himself and several family members. He now even teaches his young brothers carpentry. Read more...
